Biography
Dr. Korchevskiy is a certified toxicologist (DABT), certified industrial hygienist (CIH), and is the Director of Research and Development at Chemistry & Industrial Hygiene, Inc. (C&IH), an international consulting firm based in the United States that provides expertise in exposure assessment and risk characterization for environmental and occupational health and safety hazards. Dr. Korchevskiy holds separate PhD degrees in Applied Mathematics from Kazakh State University, and Biology with specialization in Occupational and Community Hygiene from the Institute of Human Ecology and Environmental Hygiene. He has over 130 scientific publications in the fields of industrial hygiene, epidemiology, and environmental health and safety, and has authored books and articles including peer-reviewed journal publications in the United States, Russia, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, France, Morocco, India, Japan, and Tajikistan.
His areas of expertise include risk assessment and risk management, toxicological evaluation of occupational and environmental exposure, statistical research and mathematical modeling, asbestos and other fibrous minerals exposure and risk assessment, and other areas of toxicology and industrial hygiene. His papers were featured by “Inhalation Toxicology,” “Journal of Applied Toxicology,” “Current Research in Toxicology,” “Environmental Research,” “Journal of Toxicology and Environmental Health,” and other journals. He has developed several innovative models for toxicological assessment of elongate mineral particles (EMPs), asbestos, nanoparticles, pesticides, cosmetic talc, ethylene oxide, and other agents. He is also a peer reviewer for papers published in the journals “Critical Reviews in Toxicology,” “Inhalation Toxicology,” “Minerals,” “Journal of Occupational & Environmental Hygiene,” and “Journal of Toxicology and Environmental Health, Part A: Current Issues.”
Dr. Korchevskiy is an active member of the International Affairs and Risk Assessment Committees of the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA). He is also the former chair of the AIHA Standards Advisory Panel and the chair of the AIHA Risk Committee. Each year since 2013, Dr. Korchevskiy has been an arranger and one of the leading speakers for asbestos risk assessment events (PDC and roundtable) at the annual American Industrial Hygiene Conference and Exhibition (AIHce). In 2017, he received the AIHA’s Distinguished Lecturer designation, awarded to prominent experts in industrial hygiene from academia, private industry, and government who lecture on current research and developments that affect workplace safety and the environment; in 2019, the AIHA renewed the designation based on Dr. Korchevskiy’s ongoing research and presentations. He has also taught professional development courses on risk assessment at conferences and seminars for the British Occupational Hygiene Society, the Semiconductor Environmental Safety and Health Association, the U.S. Navy and Marine Corp., and other public, private, and industry organizations.
Dr. Korchevskiy is also a consultant of the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH).
Dr. Korchevskiy is one of the leading experts in the U.S. and internationally on risk assessment for elongate mineral particles (EMPs) with consideration of mineral types, dimensionality, and morphological habit. He led a project to create a unique database containing dimensional information on more than 580,000 particles and developed a series of models to predict toxicity of particles based on their dimensional characteristics and chemical composition. The results of this study are published in peer-reviewed journals and presented at major conferences in the United States and internationally.
Dr. Korchevskiy is proactive in the international fight against childhood lead poisoning. Since 2011, he has served as Chairman of the International Task Force for Children’s Environmental Health along with members from the United States, Canada, Israel, the United Kingdom and other countries. As Task Force Chairman, he has coordinated the preparation of an AIHA reference document on childhood lead poisoning prevention. In 2013, the Task Force received an Outstanding Project Team Award from the AIHA. He also arranged and chaired a symposium on childhood lead poisoning for the International Society for Environmental Epidemiology (ISEE) Conference in South Carolina in 2012. Dr. Korchevskiy is also a two-time grant recipient (1996 and 1998) of the U.S. Civilian Research and Development Foundation (CRDF) for award-winning projects in industrial hygiene and childhood lead poisoning prevention. He is also a member of the board of Share International, a non-profit organization focused on humanitarian and scientific aid with the countries of the former Soviet Union.
Andrey Korchevskiy has a wide range of interests and hobbies. He published several books of original poetry. His translations of Elizabethan drama (by Shakespeare, Ford, and Webster) to Russian, as well as translations of poems by Keats, Donne, Lord Byron, Goethe, Thomas, Frost, Milton, Sitwell, and others, were widely published in the former Soviet Union and earned him several honorable recognitions. He has published works in the area of the theory of numbers, his favorite area of mathematics. He also plays piano and has experience in composition.
